Abstract
My paper is an attempt at identifying the major features of the practice of post-scriptum in the correspondence of Patrick Leigh Fermor with some of his friends, mainly from Romania and Hungary, and mostly from the years those countries belonged to the Soviet Bloc. The investigation is based on the already published volumes of selected letters of the author, edited by Adam Sisman in 2016 and 2018, respectively, and also on documents from personal collections we have had access to in the last five years. Is the post-scriptum the classical addition meant to shed more light on the body text of the letter, therefore underlining its provisional and amendable status? Or has it changed to a cliff-hanger, marking the origin of a future textual production, either a recycling or a sequel? Such questions and others of the kind will be addressed with a view to enlarge the knowledge on both this particular issue/topic and a certain historical period.
