French-German Department

french

Because of administrative reasons, the French Teaching Staff and the German Teaching Staff constitute one single department. The joining of staff first occurred in 2007 and then the French-German Dept was constituted in 2011.

The French Language and Literature Department comprises 7 tenured teaching staff, who specialize in French Literature, Francophone and Hispanic Literature, Linguistics and FLT Methodology as well as in Theatre Studies. Apart from teaching, the Dept members lead research activities in the afore-mentioned fields; their research is then turned-to-account by participation in national and international conferences and the subsequent publication of papers in journals and conference proceedings. The staff members' national and international visibility is also generated by their membership in prestigious national and international professional associations.

A few years ago our Department initiated collaboration with the French Department of Cluj University; hence staff thereof travel to Oradea several times a year to deliver lectures to our undergraduate and post-graduate students.

Our students have the opportunity to study abroad due to academic collaborations such as the Erasmus Programme partnerships that our Department has with universities in France, Denmark, Portugal etc (see International Relations). These collaborations also provide the teaching staff with the opportunity to access mobility grants and thus teach abroad.

The German Language and Literature Department comprises both tenured staff and associated staff; the latter are invited on a yearly basis within the cooperation framework our Department has with the R. Bosch Foundation on the one hand and the Erasmus Programme on the other hand. The majority of our staff have completed their post-graduate qualifications at German and Austrian universities, which ensures a high level of competence. The European projects they have been part of, as well as research and teaching time spent abroad, have contributed to the prestige that our Department enjoys. Last but not least, the research activity of our Department is a case in point.

The values and principles underlying the teaching activity in our Department are meant to lead to the formation of highly-skilled, competent individuals with real opportunities for post-graduate excellence. The teaching staff strive to be really supportive of the students' endeavours, so that the latter should meet the required standards.

The afore-mentioned collaboration with the R. Bosch Foundation has resulted in significant material and spiritual benefits; the former are visible in the book donation to our Department Library (over 2,000 reference volumes have been donated); the latter, in the yearly presence of a native speaker amongst our students or in the numerous projects run for the benefit of our students and teaching staff.

The publication of the students' newsletter SONDERAUSGABE-studentische Publikation is worth mentioning, as well.
