Aims and Scope

Confluențe. Annals of the University of Oradea. Modern Literature Fascicle is an international, open-access academic journal published by the Faculty of Letters, University of Oradea, Romania. It is an annual publication that features original research in the field of literary and cultural studies. The journal operates under a double-blind peer-review system, ensuring high academic standards and editorial independence.

Confluențe seeks to bridge academic literary criticism and theory with the vitality of contemporary literary phenomena, as reflected in cultural media and modern book production. It provides a platform for advanced research by both early-career and established scholars, encouraging interdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspectives.

The journal publishes original, previously unpublished research articles and book reviews in English, French, and German, fostering international dialogue across the humanities.

Main Topics

The journal is structured around two key sections — Literary Paradigms and Cultural Paradigms — and welcomes contributions in areas including:

  • British and Commonwealth Literature

  • American and Canadian Literature

  • German-Speaking Literature

  • French Literature

  • Emigrant Literature

  • Cultural and Gender Studies

  • Literature and Media

Editorial and International Scope

The journal is managed by an executive editorial team and benefits from the expertise of an international advisory board, which includes scholars from Romania and at least two other countries. This composition ensures a broad, international perspective and alignment with global academic standards.

Editorial Policy

All submissions must:

  • present original research not previously published in part or in full (in the original language or in translation);

  • not be under consideration by any other journal at the time of submission.

All articles and reviews undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process. Detailed feedback is provided to authors as part of the journal’s commitment to supporting academic excellence.

Open Access Policy

Confluențe is a fully open-access journal:

  • All articles are freely available to read, download, and share immediately upon publication.

  • The journal does not charge readers, libraries, or institutions for access.

  • No article processing charges (APCs) or other fees are levied on authors.

  • Authors are responsible for securing permission to reproduce any third-party copyrighted material.

In addition to the online open-access format, a print edition of the journal is also available.

Publishing History

The journal traces its origins to 1966–1967, when academic research at the University of Oradea began under the title Lucrări Științifice. In 1991, it adopted a new name and expanded its focus to cultural studies and comparative literature. Since 2006, Confluențe has published scholarly literary studies in English, French, German, and Italian. In 2012, it was ranked Category C by the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research.

Indexing and Visibility

Confluente aims to increase the visibility of the research it publishes through inclusion in prestigious international databases and scholarly indexes.
