Center for Research on National Cultural Changes in the Context of Globalization

The Center for Research on National Cultural Changes in the Context of Globalization operates under the Faculty of Letters / Senate of the University of Oradea.

General Director: Prof. Florin Cioban, PhD, Habil.

Honorary Members:

Prof. univ. dr. Ion Simuț

Prof. univ. dr. Magdalena Danciu

Prof. univ. dr. Teodor Mateoc

The research field lies within the humanities, intersecting with cultural and anthropological studies. The research aims to explore new manifestations of established cultural models—as found in literature (whether viewed as a cultural act or an industry), theater, film, and linguistic dynamics within a globalized intercultural space—against the backdrop of transcending the national boundaries and concepts that until recently defined cultural entities and identities.

Research areas focus on studying and evaluating significant moments and themes in Romanian culture and its relationship with the European cultural sphere. Concurrently, we define a research scope that encompasses, on the one hand, the cultures and literatures of the English, French, and German-speaking worlds and, on the other, their points of convergence with Romanian-language cultural spheres.

The primary mission of the Center for Research on National Cultural Changes in the Context of Globalization is to conduct scientific research—spanning both fundamental and applied aspects—in the fields of Romanian culture and literature, as well as world and comparative literature.

The Center for Research on National Cultural Changes in the Context of Globalization aims to:

study current trends in Romanian literature and culture and their relationship with extra-literary elements and pressures, with the goal of safeguarding and highlighting the heritage of values;
study the effects of cultural globalization in English, French, and German-speaking regions (colonialism, post-colonialism, the hybridization of cultural phenomena in literature, language, film, and the book industry) and compare them with Romanian literature;
foster dialogue with the public and civil society to explore how literature can contribute to improving the quality of life by treating globalization as an ally rather than an enemy;
align philological research at the University of Oradea with current and future directions in the literary and cultural landscape;
promote philological research and literary specialists (in literary criticism and history) across academic, theoretical, and applied fields;
foster collaborative relationships and partnerships on research projects between the University of Oradea and similar universities, centers, institutions, and research units in Romania and abroad;
develop studies and research projects in the fields of culture, language, literature, literary history, and literary criticism;
conduct research and studies in accordance with the objectives of the cultural research center;
compile a documentary resource (anthologies and studies) regarding the topics under investigation and utilize it in scientific and educational activities; organizing scientific events (paper presentations, symposia, conferences, roundtables) on topics related to the CSCNG’s objectives;
coordinating the individual and collective scientific research activities of teaching staff, undergraduate students, master’s students, and doctoral candidates, and incorporating studies and research from the three departments—as well as from master’s and doctoral programs—into the Center’s events;
collaborating with, or establishing partnerships with, institutions whose activities focus on the implementation of new cultural policies.
